Yabause is a Sega Saturn video game system emulator that can be used as a libretro core.

Background

Yabause (Yet Another Buggy And Uncomplete Saturn Emulator) is the only active Sega Saturn emulator that is both open-source and written with portability in mind. The libretro port only supports the software renderer at the moment, which is more accurate but also slower than the GL renderer.

Feature Support

These are libretro features, not frontend or standalone emulator features.

BIOS

Yabause optionally supports usage of an actual Saturn BIOS image file for increased compatibility:

  • saturn_bios.bin

Any kind Saturn BIOS file should be good to go.

Options

This core has a few options that can be tweaked from the core options menu. The default setting is highlighted and in italics:

  • Frameskip (disabled/enabled): frames are skipped when the CPU is unable to keep up a stable rate.
  • Force HLE BIOS (enabled/disabled)(restart): HLE BIOS will be used even when a real BIOS file is present.
  • Addon Cartridge (none/1M_ram/4M_ram)(restart): allows switching between the various RAM cartridges released for the system.
